The rain stopped McCain.

Both Barack Obama and John McCain were campaigning in Pennsylvania Tuesday. The state is important for both parties, but especially for the Republicans who lost the state four years ago. Some analysts thinks he needs to win here to have any chance of winning the election in a weeks time.

McCain had planned to hold two rallies, one indoors and one outdoors, both in the town of Hersey. Barack Obama had an outdoor rally planned in Chester. The weather was awful in both towns, with rain, wind and sleet. This was a bit on the chilly side for the 72 year old (who might be prone to getting an autumn cold?), so he cancelled the outdoor rally, making do with just the indoor one. Obama, on the other hand, kept his promised appearance to the delight of thousands of wet and cold voters. The rain stopped McCain.

More trouble for the McCain/Palin campaign.

A few days after the ‘Gucci’ storm, Sarah Palin is still making headlines. And that is not good for John McCain. She has just finished giving evidence, behind closed doors, about her apparent misuse of power when firing an official in Alaska. If that wasn’t bad enough, she will not brand those who bomb abortion centers as terrorists.

Palin’s strong stand against abortion is well documented. Her own family has often been at the centre of her fight against the pro-choice movement; her youngest son has Downs’s syndrome and her teenage daughter is pregnant, but not married. More trouble for the McCain/Palin campaign.

McCain’s hopeless fight.

Poor John McCain. He was doomed from the start, wasn’t he. After the most disastrous 8 years in the history of the White House it must be very, very hard indeed to get people to vote for someone from the same party. And while he’s at it, he probably feels pretty bad. McCain’s hopeless fight.

The confident underdog.

’I like being the underdog’, says John McCain, who seems to see himself like a straight talking, shooting from the hip kind of maverick. ‘Every time I get ahead I mess it up, so being the underdog suits me well’.

John McCain can’t be reading the same newspapers as the rest of the world, because he is confident it will be a close race on the 4th November. Hasn’t he noticed that Obama has had a solid lead on him for weeks now? According to CNN’s latest, Obama has 49 percent to McCain’s 43. We’ve all seen them much, much closer, so I for one don’t believe in the thriller finish he promises. The confident underdog.

Biden on Leno on McCain.

Joe Biden has finally hauled himself out of hibernation and made an appearance. On national television! Not bad, considering his rival Sarah Palin gets more media coverage than John McCain, mostly due to her unrelenting use of her own family for the republican campaign.

Senator Biden seemed relaxed and comfortable in the company of Jay Leno. When asked about his friend John McCain, he said that McCain doesn’t seem like himself at this stage of the campaign. ‘He seems a little more angry than he normally is’, Biden observed after Leno referred to the comical facial expressions during Thursday’s debate. Biden continued to say that he didn’t think McCain was comfortable with the negative turn taken in his campaign. Biden on Leno on McCain.

The different faces of John McCain.

The third and final presidential candidate debate was held yesterday in Hempstead, New York. Barack Obama was pronounced a clear winner, mostly because he has held the same mild manner throughout the debates and his own campaign. John McCain lost because he hasn’t. Do we dare to hope?

Barack Obama is leading in the polls. Almost all of them. In the latest one from Zogby and C-span he is leading McCain by 6 percent; Obama has 49 to McCain’s 43. But polls by voter groups shows that McCain is trailing Obama in almost all of them.

Obama has a 17 percent lead over McCain when it comes to non partisan voters and 11 percent amongst women. Obama is also winning the men over, but his lead here is not as great as the other voter categories. It doesn’t stop there. He is winning over Catholics and Hispanic voters, and he is ahead in all age groups. McCain only has the lead in two categories; white males and the rich voters. But as the financial crises continues the latter category in on the decline. Do we dare to hope?

Trying to calm the storms.

John McCain told the audience at a rally in Lakeville, Minnesota, not to be afraid of Barack Obama, should he be elected as President. He hasted to add that he would make a much better one, but that Obama is a good man and should be respected. McCain is trying to lessen the aggressive tone his campaign has taken during the last couple of weeks.

McCain even interrupted a voter who took the mike at the rally, saying ‘I don’t trust Obama. I’ve read about him. He’s an Arab’. McCain was heard saying that Obama is indeed a nice, family guy, and a citizen with fundamentally different views. ‘Fundamentally’ is a great word to put in when stupid people think you’re talking about an Arab. Trying to calm the storms.

Biden’s disappointment.

Joe Biden used to have a good friend called John McCain. He doesn’t anymore. After the latest attacks from the McCain/Palin camp, Biden has had enough and is hitting back, saying he is immensely disappointed in his former pal. McCain was civil during Tuesday’s debate, but when speaking at a rally in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the tone was totally different.

As his campaign is trailing in the polls the Republicans have come up with a new strategy; to create uncertainty and worry as to what Obama will do if elected. ‘Who is senator Obama’ asked McCain. ‘What he says today and what he has done in the past are two completely different things’, he continued, before following up with ‘broken promises’ and that Obama cannot be trusted. The whole speech was peppered with words like ‘socialist’, ‘terrorist’ and ‘liar’. Biden’s disappointment.

Obama looks to the future while McCain visits the past.

Yesterday another presidential debate hit the US. This was highly anticipated to be a ‘streetfight’, but those who would have enjoyed that was left disappointed. It was again a quite civilized affair. Obama came out on top again, but mainly because McCain didn’t win it. He desperately needed to. Obama looks to the future while McCain visits the past.
